Born in Widnes, Chris Kirwan attended Edge Hill College, studying English and Physical Education, before beginning his teaching
career in Wade Deacon High School, where he taught English and Drama for over thirty years. He continued his studies throughout
his career and achieved an Advanced Diploma in Education (Special Needs) before gaining a Masters degree from MMU. Reading
fiction with young adults of all abilities had given him an understanding of what makes a story interesting and after retiring
from teaching he decided to try his hand at writing full time.
In Shadowers Crossing he draws on that experience and his own upbringing in West Bank to bring together a rich tapestry of
prose and ideas.
"As far as I know, no one has written a novel about my birthplace, West Bank. As a boy growing up in the shadow of the three
bridges, I was always aware that this place was special and that many people who grew up here also looked back with fondness
and nostalgia. I was fascinated by the industrial landscape and especially The Ethelfleda Viaduct. Since the time I became
aware of Ethelfleda being King Alfred the Great's warrior queen daughter, I always had it in my mind to write this book."

Chris is shown signing books for customers at the launch of his book recently in the Curiosity Bookshop, Runcorn.
